This mid-century modern house was not well connected with its garden setting, and the garden itself was somewhat flat and lifeless. In reshaping and planting out the garden beds and using tree cover, the house becomes more anchored with the outdoor space. Greenery was brought closer to the main living spaces by using pots to connect the broad terrace with the garden beyond. Layered planting in the front garden provided a more lush and attractive outlook from the main entertaining spaces. A mature Olive tree set amongst swathes of under-planting provided a foil for the solid Cypress hedge backdrop, as well as offsetting the pool with tones of grey-green and blues. An assortment of succulent and sculptural plants pay homage to the California Moderne style.
