In this Georgian style home, with front door set close to the footpath and a narrow front garden, we wanted to create impact as one steps off the street, by bringing the polychrome brickwork detail around the arched entry down to the ground plane. Small shrubs and ground covers between pavers make the most of a narrow garden space.
At the rear of the house, the formerly paved zone suited to ball play in the earlier years of family members, was transformed into a generous seating and entertaining area for the family now with young adult children in residence. Solid paving transitions to paving in greenery and then into the garden bed, with layers of trees, grasses and flowering shrubs for outlook. A stone clad, concrete topped garden seat creates another space for quiet contemplation and outlook from the formal living area. A cantilevered pergola softens the earlier house extension and all elements contribute to bringing the garden closer, increasing the sense of depth in the garden and making the outlook more entrancing.
