A classic Spanish Mission home was previously surrounded by hard, dark paving with limited and spiky vegetation. Bringing warmth to the surrounds with the use of the golden tones of Castlemaine slate, the linear arrangement has been disrupted with sinuous, curvy raised garden beds in the narrow rear garden space. Crazy paving merges into paving with greenery between and plants cascade from walls and pergola above.

A pedestrian pathway through the front garden skirts both the new kidney shaped pool and spa and the productive garden, arriving at the newly opened up front porch with new waterfall steps. A generous front garden becomes both welcoming entry and useful space for lounging, swimming and pottering in the garden beds.

Plants were selected for their strong and soft forms, with native plants abounding amongst an exotic palette. Grasses, perennials, deciduous trees and evergreen shrubs bring constant change in flower, leaf colour and foliage shapes. Low freestanding walls provide definition as well as a place to sit, while the timber pool fence winds gently through garden beds, creating another sculptural element in this whimsical garden. Birds are painted on walls, placed on birdbaths and garden stakes and encouraged into the garden through careful plant selection.
